A Scrappy TickTock
A few years ago I received a large flat rate box packed with scraps from my grandmother. She makes pillowcase style dresses for a charity, but was throwing away the arm scythe cut outs. I know, it was terrible. I visited a number of years ago and mentioned I could make quilts from those pieces, and she’s been saving them for me ever since.
This is the first quilt I made from that large box. It’s the Tick Tock pattern from Cluck, Cluck, Sew, and is just perfect for scraps! I first chose my background fabric, then sorted out scraps that matched those colors - pinks, reds, greens, yellows, blues, purples. I know it seems like I didn’t exclude much, but I promise I did!
The quilt is so cleverly constructed, and the pattern easy to follow, I just can’t recommend it enough. There will definitely be another one, maybe with just my scraps, in my future.
I backed the quilt with a palm tree print that has nothing to do with the front. My family has a bit of a running joke about palm trees, so I try to incorporate them where I can. I quilted it with a peachy pink thread, with a sort of all over feathery swirl. Bound with some of the bigger/longer scraps (and a few from my own stash), this quilt is smidge loud, but oh so happy and smiley. I finished it in 2021, and sent it to my grandmother to be loved (after taking some pictures of my baby daughter on it, of course!)
