Scraps beget Scraps
From large scraps come tiny scraps, right? The scrappy quilt I recently posted had lots of those tiny outcome scraps. So what’s a quilter to do? Make another scrappy quilt of course!
I trimmed all the tiny scraps into 1.5” strips, whatever length they wanted to be. I then joined all the 1.5” strips together, into loooooong chains. Pieced them onto 2.5” white jelly roll strips. I then subcut into 10.5” blocks.
One jelly roll, and a pile of scraps, yielded a healthy throw size quilt. Ta-da!
I decided to experiment a bit, and backed this quilt in a plush blanket I picked up at Homegoods. A $10 squishy back was worth a shot - and it turned out great! It’s not an option I would use on a quilt getting more detailed/custom quilting, but for me, and my needs, it worked great. And it makes a super heavy squishy quilt my daughter loves dragging around, and rolling up in.
It’s quilted with an all-over easy feather design, that I find to be super quick, with plain ole boring white thread. I know, I know - white thread has its uses, it just will never be my favorite.
Do you ever experiment with your quilts? I especially like doing it with scrap quilts, or simple piecing projects.
